On September 19, 2022, an auditorium of world leaders came together to discuss world problems. Together, they committed to making a “collective impact” from shore to shore. The discussions touched upon climate change, gun violence, energy, medicine, and hope, just to name a few.
The most notable presentation was delivered by a doctor from the University of Pennsylvania. His name is Dr. David Fajgenbaum. He shared his story with the crowd. Dr. Fajgenbaum was ill and almost died five (5) times. He was suffering from a disease that has no cure, called, Castleman Disease. In an effort to help himself, he made the decision to help others. He did so in a very creative way.
Dr. Fajgenbaum began to search for the cures of various diseases with no known treatments by trying to repurpose pharmaceutical drugs that are used to treat other diseases. For example, medicines that were intended to address asthma (for example) may also serve as a course of treatment for a different illness. The concept makes sense. However, there is no financial incentive for pharmaceutical companies to promote such a concept. Therefore, Dr. Fajgenbaum set out to take action.
He began (as a co-founder) by starting an organization called “Every Cure.” They are committed to the following mission: “We are dedicated to unlocking all diseases that all existing drugs can treat by developing a comprehensive, open-source database of drug repurposing opportunities, and launching clinical trials of the most promising treatments.” If you would like to know more about Dr. Fajgenbaum’s story and the work of Every Cure, please find the website’s link here: https://everycure.org/
I enjoy listening to people who are willing to share their innovative and cutting-edge theories, activities, and altruistic commitments, all in an effort to make the world a better place. When mankind works together, as a collective whole, everyone can benefit from our collective efforts. It is amazing how Dr. Fajgenbaum’s work has been taking place in our Pennsylvania backyard. It is my hope that this news may be of assistance to you and your loved one(s) who may benefit from Every Cure’s database. This story speaks to the power of how one person can impact the entire world.
